Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) will host a career fair at Chesapeake Conference Center located at 700 Conference Center Dr. March 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The fair will emphasize shipyard career opportunities in the production skill trades, including experienced pipefitters, marine machinery mechanics, shipwrights, scaffold builders, and riggers.
Representatives from major departments throughout NNSY will be on hand to meet with attendees and answer questions. Congress has granted temporary Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for certain occupations at NNSY to shorten the hiring process so large numbers of civilian employees can be hired more quickly.
Prospective applicants should have multiple copies of their resumes available and be prepared to be interviewed at the career fair. Federal employment benefits at the shipyard include health and life insurance, matching retirement plan contributions, 10 paid holidays annually, 13 vacation days annually (advancing to 26), and 13 sick days annually.
NNSY, a field activity of the Naval Sea Systems Command, is the oldest industrial facility belonging to the U.S. Navy, and specializes in repairing, overhauling and modernizing ships and submarines.
It is the fourth largest employer in the Hampton Roads area with more than 10,000 civilians and an annual payroll of approximately $700 million.
