Newport News has a variety of small neighborhood parks:
Beechlake Park on Longmeadow Drive has basketball, freshwater fishing, trails, and a playground. Christopher Newport Park at 26th Street & West Avenue has floral gardening and historical displays. Denbigh Park Boat Ramp on Denbigh Blvd. serves the community as a boat ramp as well as having hiking/jogging trails and saltwater fishing. Highland Court Park on Highland Avenue has tennis courts and a playground.

Hilton Pier near Hilton School is a public fishing pier. Huntington Heights Square at Huntington Avenue& Warwick Blvd is a historical landmark.
Ivy Farms Park on provides a playground for area residents. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza at 25th Street & Jefferson Avenue is a public park with floral gardens.
Lake Maury Natural Area is a natural park located on the south side of Lake Maury.
Lee's Mill Park at 180 River's Ridge Circle has a public nature trail Municipal Lane Park on Municipal Lane provides playground equipment. Nicewood Park on Nicewood Drive offers basketball courts and playground. Potters Field Park is a historical park on Warwick Blvd.
Stoney Run Park on 15110 Warwick Blvd. is a five-field softball/athletic field complex. Superblock Park at 26th Street & West Avenue is a public playground. Teardrop Park on Newport Avenue has basketball courts and a playground. Victory Landing Park on 26st Street is an open park.
