2010 Ocean View Art Show

Published: June 23, 2010 | Updated: June 23, 2010

Artists from all over the Mid-Atlantic area are expected for the 48th Annual Ocean View Art Show, to be held October 10-11, 2010 at Ocean View Park in Norfolk. Applications are now being accepted for the 2010 show and organizers hope to attract a wide range artists.

The show will feature all types of Art, all created by the participating Artists. There will be painters, sculptors, jewelry makers, photographers, wood carvers, potters, and more. Food vendors will be on hand providing tasty treats and soothing beverages. Show times are from 10 AM to 5 PM both Saturday and Sunday, with time for the artists to set up on Friday afternoon.

Chesapeake Bay Art Association, Inc. (CBAA) is the sponsor of this annual event. The group was formed in 1961, when a few artists in Norfolk's Ocean View and Willoughby areas got together to share their common interests. A year later, 1962, the first show was held. Proceeds from the show are used to benefit the John B. Tenney Artist Scholarship Fund. Each year the Chesapeake Bay Art Association gives away Art Scholarships to local high school students that have been accepted into college to study Art. This year three scholarships were awarded.

CBAA has been busy in 2010. Members art work hung in the state capital while the Virginia legislature was in session. Virginia Beach General Hospital also had CBAA members work on display. Our members only Spring Show saw 3 scholarships awarded, to a sculptor, a painter, and a photographer. CBAA has also applied to become a 501 (c) 3, charitable organization. This status should be in affect by October, in time for the Ocean View Show.

The Ocean View Art Show is put on entirely by the member artists of the area. This is largest and oldest artist run show in the Hampton Roads area, and perhaps all of Virginia. As soon as each year’s show is complete, members start to work on the next, trying to make it bigger and better than the last.
