Coast Guard Clean-up Continues at Norfolk Marina

Published: April 29, 2010
As of Wednesday, April 28, 2010 the Coast Guard was continuing to monitor clean-up efforts following a fire at the Vinings Landing Marina in Norfolk in the early morning hours.

IMS Environmental and Moran Environmental Recovery have been hired to clean up and recover three sunken vessels.

A majority of the fuel spilt has dissipated or has been absorbed by the absorbent booms. A hard boom remains in place to keep debris from spreading.

The Coast Guard warns boaters to take caution when transiting near the marina and obey the no-wake zone as to not hamper clean-up efforts.

Initial reports from responders this morning stated a 45-foot sailing vessel caught fire and spread to adjacent recreational boats. The initial report has not been confirmed. The Norfolk Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
