The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD) will offer separate SWaM (small, women-owned, or minority-owned business) Information and Certification Sessions in July. Both events will be held at Christopher Newport University (CNU).
Are you a small, women-owned or minority-owned business who wants to do business with the Commonwealth of Virginia?
Small business owners who are looking to participate in Virginia’s specialized procurement and contracting opportunities are encouraged to become SWaM certified. The SWaM certification is a vehicle to promote economic growth of Virginia’s businesses.
Becoming SWaM certified is just the first step in doing business with the Commonwealth. Each year the state buys goods and services totaling more than $8 billion. The Commonwealth of Virginia wants to do business with you and increase participation of small, women-owned and minority-owned businesses.

The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD) will offer a free SWaM Certification Information Session on July 11, 2018, at CNU.

This workshop will cover the SWaM Program and designations, certification process and new online application portal (live demo), required documents needed to apply, and how to use the certification to do business with the Commonwealth. The session will include an introduction to eVA, Virginia’s online, electronic procurement system.

These sessions are for NEW and RE-CERTIFYING state applicants who need assistance with submitting the application. This is not an information session.
If you are a FOR-PROFIT business interested in becoming SWaM Certified in order to do business with the Commonwealth of Virginia, SBSD staff will be on-site to provide assistance with the online process to apply for the SWaM Certification.
In this session, participants will create an account and receive assistance with uploading REQUIRED documents and application submissions.
Seating is limited in each session
Please bring your REQUIRED documents (scanned separately according to list) on a flash drive (scanning help is also available) and your laptops or tablets (Chrome works best) – WiFi will be provided.
